About us!
We love and respect the unique and breathtaking environment that exists here in Mahahual in the Costa Maya of Quintana Roo.
We at La Leyenda ECO-TOURS understand the significance of these intricate underwater ecosystems which harbor a quarter of all marine species. The collapse of coral reefs would cascade adverse impacts, imperiling not only marine life but also coastlines, global livelihoods and food security.
This is why we have made a commitment to sustainable tourism: for the protection and preservation of our fragile coral reef system.
The health of the Great Mesoamerican Reef and the mangrove forests of Mahahual depends on all of us. We work hard to provide awareness to the local community and our visitors of the importance of coral reef systems to the world at large and what we as individuals can do to help with preservation.
We implement waste-reduction in our low-impact tours by providing reusable equipment, avoiding single-use plastics, as well as recovering plastics from snorkeling areas during each experience.
We integrate educational elements into our snorkeling tours and excursions in order to raise awareness and to create a personal connection with the local marine environment. Experiencing nature firsthand can create lasting impressions which can translate into more sustainable practices globally.
We are a family business in Mahahual Costa Maya, bringing over 50 years of local knowledge and experience to you. We are excited to give you a personal and unforgettable experience of the incredible, natural world that we call home.
We are one of only two service providers in Mahahual, Quintana Roo certified to provide aquatic experiences in environmentally protected areas.
Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about Mahahual Costa Maya, the local reef system, or about an ECO-snorkeling or sustainable fishing excursion with us. We’d love to hear from you.
It’s easy to find us!
We are right on the beach in front of Hotel 40 Cañones.
If you’re visiting from a cruise ship, you can take a taxi from the Costa Maya Cruise Port directly to Hotel 40 Cañones. (Taxis charge around 4USD per person, and the ride is only about 7 minutes!)
