Exploring “Uveros” in the Costa Maya
We recently had an opportunity to take our boat north to an area called “El Uvero”, named after the native grape trees in the local area.
We knew of an abandoned dive area there once popular with visitors. You can see several vehicles placed under the water around 3 meters deep, including cars, trucks, a small airplane and a helicopter.
We were surprised by the species thriving in this area, one of which was a type of squirrelfish. I had never seen as many on any other section of the reef. We saw many young brain corals growing on several structures and the stoplight parrotfish were plentiful, too.
