Experience
Are you interested in a blend of what a day in Mahahual has to offer? Join us for a Caribbean fishing and ECO snorkeling experience here in Mahahual Costa Maya!
We’ll begin the trip at our booth in front of Hotel 40 Cañones, where we’ll board one of our 25ft pangas. Our fishing charter offers three hours of coastal trolling and/or bottom fishing (at depths of 60 to 200 meters). Trolling catches may include barracuda, spanish mackerel, jacks and, if we get lucky, wahoo, mahi, kingfish and billfish. While bottom fishing we may catch different types of snapper, including “huachinango” or red snapper, amberjacks, or caribbean reef sharks. When children are part of the group, we can shift our focus to smaller catches in shallower areas with casting equipment when requested.
After fishing, we will enjoy one hour of snorkeling among the local flora and fauna of the Great Mesoamerican Reef, right here in Mahahual Costa Maya. The area is populated with many Caribbean fish and coral species (French and Gray angelfish, Damselfish, Bluehead and Yellowhead wrasse, Stoplight parrotfish, Grunts, Puffers and more). If we’re lucky, we may even see a spotted eagle ray or green sea turtles.
Don’t forget to download our free field guide to get to know some of the animals before your trip!
Fishing and snorkeling sites are chosen the day of your trip based on weather and sea conditions to offer you the best possible experience.
We are strictly committed to sustainable fishing practices and low-impact tourism experiences on the great Mesoamerican reef system here in Mahahual, Quintana Roo.
