Experience
If you love to fish and have a day to spend in Mahahual, this is right up your alley. Join La Leyenda ECO-TOURS for a Costa Maya fishing charter here in Mahahual.
On our fishing charter we focus on hunting the bigger pelagics. We offer coastal trolling and the possibility of bottom fishing (at depths of 60 to 200 meters). Trolling catches may include barracuda, mackerel, bonito, jacks and, if we get lucky, wahoo, mahi or sailfish.
While bottom fishing we may catch different types of snapper, including “huachinango” or red snapper, amberjacks, or caribbean reef sharks.
On one of our 25ft pangas we will choose fishing sites the day of your trip. We base our strategy on weather conditions, wave height and on the locations where we’re having the best bite probabilities.
We are strictly committed to sustainable fishing practices and low-impact tourism experiences on the great Mesoamerican reef system here in Mahahual, Quintana Roo. This is also why we use well maintained, strong equipment.
Equipment
Our Costa Maya fishing charter includes all Penn fishing equipment, with reels sized 50 and 60. Our reels are backed with 80lb to 100lb braided line, topped with 50lb or 80lb monofilament. We use a variety of skirted ballyhoo and other lures, as well as 3-hook bottom fishing rigs.
We provide certified life vests and we’ll take some GoPro footage as you’re reeling in your deep-water game.
Food/Refreshment
We offer snacks to enjoy right on the boat! We provide water, beer, sodas, as well as fresh fruit and a delicious guacamole. Feel free to bring anything else that you’d like!
Preparing your Catch
If you’d like to have your catch prepared for you in the restaurant of Hotel 40 Cañones, they can do so at a cost of only 250MXN (~11USD) per person, for those who would like a dish. Other members of the group not interested in a dish are free to enjoy other items from the menu if desired.
After your Tour
After your trip you are welcomed to relax on the beach and paddle around in our kayaks. Our area of sargassum-free beach is right alongside “Hotel 40 Cañones”.
EXTRA: Special access to “Pez Cuadro”, the beach club at Hotel 40 Cañones can be provided at an additional cost.
