At La Leyenda ECO-TOURS, snorkeling is one of our absolute favorite activities. It allows us the chance to experience the local flora and fauna of the Great Mesoamerican Reef, right here in Mahahual Costa Maya. The area is populated with many Caribbean fish and coral species (French and Gray angelfish, Damselfish, Bluehead and Yellowhead wrasse, Parrotfish, Grunts, Puffers and more). We may even see species of stingray, green sea turtles and on occasion, a manatee.
Our trip offers a mix of coastal trolling and also bottom fishing at depths of 60 to 150 meters. Trolling catches may include barracuda, mackerel, jacks and, if we get lucky, wahoo, mahi or sailfish. While bottom fishing we may catch different types of snapper, including “huachinango” or red snapper, amberjacks, or caribbean reef sharks.
In between activities, we will take your group to a private beach to the south of Mahahual, where you can relax and enjoy fresh coconuts and ceviche under the giant coconut palms.

Our tour includes all fishing equipment and baits (skirted ballyhoo), semi-professional snorkeling equipment (all cleaned and sanitized before and after every use) including fins, certified life vests, and a personal guide who will also snap some underwater photos of you as a courtesy.
